Death tower needs 3 or 4 colours. Of course, order of colours is also important. For example,
colour order: yellow→green→red
this is ideal complated tower
But, There are some serious problems during making tower. now I explain them,
also settlement and cutting is able to help that explanation.
First, you want to link green already set, you have to set green on 4 column first.
Linking green, like this pic, is settlement.
How to link green has various settings, but settlement of green absolutely need green for link in death tower.
ristriction of green position is only settement, so other green linkings are free after settlement.

In this pic, yellow and green are settelement.
yellow have to link at 6 column, so green can't set on 6 column.
And purple also have to link on 3 column 3 line.
So space to link green is under restriction.
These forms are very tight. For example, when you are going to add yellow, red will be dead without yellow double or yellow and red..
And this form is so far from rethal death tower. (19 puyos tower is enough)
19 puyos is 4 colour and 3 extra link in other word. But the space for extra link is few.
This ideal tower is actually a dream from early stage.
Then, how we make tower? in this step, Cutting is helpful.
Cutting is way to waste a puyo. For example,
5-6 horizontal is way to use all puyos.
but it produces a restriction of order: green→red
This is Cutting set.
Green is dead, but other colours restriction became loose.
There are some merits, first max yellow links increased five. second, red is took settlement.
There are very flexible tower shapes.
Here are some tricks
・primis tower often require settement
・Avoid cutting puyos linked. It is desirable that cut puyo is single.
・Ealry cutting is more desirable than midfield.
・Settlement have a demerit: space for linking is decrease. If you want large space(ex. 3 colors tower), you should postpone settelement a bit
